I admit I’m a bit of a font junkie. I have 3572 fonts installed on my computer (no, seriously) and am always looking for new and exciting fonts to pop-up here and there. I don’t know exactly why I like typography so much because I have no interest in developing my own font. No, that’s not true, I remember trying to make my own handwriting into a computer font. The idea seems really cool, but I haven’t found a service yet good enough to settle my personal typhgraphic needs…
There are lot’s of great websites out there to download all sorts of fonts, so I figured I would share some of my favorites with you:
25 best fonts – the article from geek ramblings that inspired this post linked to this list of 25 very nice fonts (some are only for Mac).
Da Font – a great source with thousands of fonts. I always have to stop myself from downloading all of them.
Abstract Fonts – very nice source for clean fonts. I like the top 100 features.
Simply the Best – I like the handwriting section.
Silkscreen – very cool font from Kottke.org meant to be used in small size.
Famous Fonts – seen a font on a TV show, movie, music video, or on a product? If it’s famous this website will have it to download.
Identifont – seen a font somewhere and you want to know what it is? Try this website. I will usually output a commercial font…just plug that name into Google and in many instances you can find a free (knock-off) version that looks just like it.
Now if I can only find a good application to turn my handwriting into a nice looking font…
